Car and Driver

A persons ability to enjoy self-control can be compared to a race car driver and his race car. For a race car driver to enjoy victories in his profession, he has to become well acquainted with his vehicle. He needs to know how it responds at any given stretch of road, so he accommodate for it best. The same is true about us and our bodies and minds. We are a spirit being, which is our control center, and we operate a mind and a body. For us to be winners in life we need to become familiar with our own idiosyncrasies, so we can adjust for them when they come to play in the way we respond to life's difficulties. For example, a person should know what naturally tends to make them tired, depressed, anxious, obsessive, paranoid, fearful and other feelings that could slow them down in life, so they can watch out for them and do something to offset the negative results thereof. The goal is to one day be free from all of these tendencies, but until then, know what your are dealing with and triumph in life, in spite of them. We also need to know when to accelerate and when to decelerate. Oftentimes, people with anxiety don't know how to live intuitively in their environment. They try and 'floor it' as much as they can, and it tires them out. Life is not a 100 yard dash, it is a marathon, and we need to pace ourselves most of the time and usually only accelerate when the way looks clear and straight. In that way life becomes easy and fun.
